Camino de Santiago. Azofra to Santo Domingo de la Calzada.

An early 7am start at Azofra to beat the heat of the day.

Here it all is in 4 (approx) pictures.

Who? Me and SB, going full Sancho Panzer and Don Quixote. It’s too good an opportunity to miss with the sun at your back and the monotony of the road ahead. Ha ha, you’ve got to guess which one is Sancho and which one is Don.

Where? In the Cathedral of Santo Domingo – in the town named after him. He was a big deal in these parts. Rightly so. He built bridges for Pilgrims to get across rivers and performed multiple miracles.

Bringing a dead (possibly cooked) hen and rooster back to life was one of his more interesting ones.

Hence the live hen and rooster living in a bespoke gothic chicken coop in the Cathedral. I kid you not.

It’s been well worth the trip just for the rooster going bezerk and crowing and SB panicking I’d pressed a wrong button on something. As if…

Look carefully for the rooster

What? Walking. And robustly debating the merits of having some of our luggage forwarded so we don’t have to carry it everywhere.

SB is more of a purist on this topic and wants to suffer on her pilgrimage. I’m less committed.

Then we saw this sign… are we Tourista or Peregrino?

Why? I’m back to the taxi adverts on everything question.

Camino road signs are basically just a surface for taxi advert stickers. 4 on this one.

Another thing to test the Perigrino.

Bonus pic. Santo Domingo’s dog. There’s a wierd and wonderful world of figurines and other bits and bobs you can buy at the Cathedral.

Maybe it was something to do with receiving texts of my dog Tigz out with the Dog Walker, but I really wanted the reproduction of this one.

Alas, we couldn’t carry it.
